On My Shoulders is a strengths-based, experiential curriculum that focuses on the father-child relationship, providing fathers from a variety of backgrounds the knowledge they need to build skills for more effective parenting? On My Shoulders was developed to honor the fact that men have unique ways of relating, and helps fathers examine assumptions, imposed from within and without, that guide their decisions and behaviors in relationships with their children and other people in their lives. This cutting edge curriculum offers fathers opportunities for reflection and peer discussion to reinforce lesson concepts and individual learning styles. On My Shoulders training is designed for fatherhood practitioners and those throughout Oklahoma desiring to initiate or improve services to fathers. As this goal is very specific, the OMI limits registration to those who can demonstrate a well thought out plan for delivering services to fathers. WMR Workshop Leaders must have ready access to the priority population for these services: single heads of households who are at higher risk for negative relationship outcomes. Potential Workshop Leaders must fill out an on-line application outlining their proposed plans to deliver services to the target population. Acceptance and attendance is subject to review and approval of this plan by OMI Staff. The OMI requires an additional day of training called a Teach Back Day. This training day allows the new Workshop Leaders to further enhance their facilitation skills, practice their presentations, ask questions about implementation, and receive information about how to access the on-line process for ordering materials for your workshops. OAYS has worked with a national curriculum developer to create a new curriculum for use as the standard in our First Time Offender programs. (Working title “Its My Life”) OAYS and the FTOP curriculum committee developed a structure for the new curriculum that consists of standardized “core” modules. These six modules will be compulsory to every FTO class as the standard “core”. The “core” modules will be further enhanced by a bank of optional ancillary modules providing each agency the flexibility to customize their program to match the specific needs of any given group. OAYS and the FTOP Committee are responsible for developing this bank of ancillary modules. Content for ancillary modules will provide training on additional relevant topics not contained in the “core” e.g. tobacco secession, values, social skills. These ancillary modules will also allow instructors to further explore a “core” topic in greater detail than would be relevant to the circumstances of some participants e.g. substance use, anger management, continued involvement with the Juvenile Justice system etc. It's My Life Training
